Within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) any problem within the body, whether it be physical, mental or emotional, is due to a disruption of the life energy (Qi) flow within pathways (Meridians) of the body. This Qi flow should be balanced and even, if it becomes weak, slow, stagnated or too fast this will affect the body or spirit. TCM does not just concentrate on symptoms but looks at the whole person, mind, body and spirit, to balance the Qi flow and alleviate the root cause of the problem. It uses a number of different techniques, Chinese Energy Balancing (Qi Balancing), Accupuncture, Tui Na, QiGong, Herbal Medicine etc.
In Qi Balancing the idea is to help the client regulate their Qi flow with the practitioner using his/her own Qi as an external energy source. By using their energy they can help strengthen, speed up, slow down or remove blockages that cause stagnation and different techniques can be used.
Working on the head and shoulders, or in the aura, is good for emotional or mental problems and general balancing. Working locally on a point to break through a blockage, is good for pain or injury. Working on the meridians by pushing or pulling Qi through them to balance their flow, is good for illness, pain or injury. In some cases the practitioner may work on a part of the body that seems to have no relation to the current problem. Flow of Qi within a meridian can be activated from different parts along that meridian, it does not have to be specific to the point of blockage. In fact more than one meridian may need balancing to work on an ailment.
A Qi Balancing session is very relaxing and will make you feel good about yourself, but it is not normally a one stop cure all, problems that may have taken years to develop may need more than one session to resolve.
